Fronting on Long Island Sound, Silver Sands is a developing State Park facility. Charles Island, just south of the beach area may be accessed at low tide by walking across the tombolo beach which connects the mainland to the island. Folklore claims that Charles Island is the secret hiding place for Captain Kidd's treasure. Numerous studies have proven that to be false.
